Battle Board Help

Our Own Game Company has created the Battle Board for assisting with remote game play.

Using the Board

Drag any of the images in the collections onto the board for use.

  • Markers pulled from the objects list will remain where dropped and cannot be moved after placing.
  • Markers pulled from the creatures list can be moved after placing. The markers with the green outline are player markers.
  • Creature markers will auto number as they are placed upon the board in the order they are placed.
  • Player markers are unique and cannot duplicate.
  • Right-Clicking on Creatures or Players will change their status. This is a loop of 4 – (normal, Dazed, Dead, Other).

Clicking the Clear Creatures button will remove all creatures from the board and reset the creature numbering to 1.

Clicking on the trash can will clear the next marker you click on. Right-clicking anywhere will disable this.

The dry-erase pen buttons will make the cursor into the same colored pen for use on the board.

Clicking on the eraser button will wipe away all the dry-erase pen lines on the board.

For screen sharing utilities that hide the mouse, there is a location dot available on the main map board. Anywhere in the mat that is empty of objects, players or creatures, right-clicking will show the option to turn on this feature. The user may then click and drag the location dot to show mouse movement or to mark a spot under discussion. Either right-clicking and selecting the option again, or just moving the mouse off the mat will turn the location dot off.

Changing the board size

The battle board is set in a grid and is measured by this from the start. Each grid square is assumed to be the scale of 1 square = 5 feet. However, for tracking large journeys, the scale can be increased to make a grid square equal to whatever your need is at the time.

By changing the selections from either Width (X) or Height (Y) will reset the board and make it the appropriate grid size.

Reset the board

Clicking the “Reset” button will clear the board, erase all lines and clear the background. It will also reset the zoom level to 1. Resetting will NOT change the grid size.

Using your own images.

Add your own images for use as Creatures, Objects and Players by placing jPeg, Bitmap or PNG images in the appropriate folder.

The folders are located in your documents folder under AK_Data. <documents>/AK_Data/<image folders>

Ensure that any images are exactly square in pixel size. Example: 512px x 512px or 47px x 47px. Please note, that the large the image, the slower the response in the application as it will scale them accordingly.

Using your own maps

Add your own background image on the battle board by clicking on the insert button and browsing to the image of your choice. After the file has been selected you will be prompted to set the scale. This is how many pixels are equal to 5 feet. The default value is 27 pixels. There is a sample map included that will load into your documents folder under AK_Data that is at the 27 pixel scale.

The map can be any jPeg, Bitmap or PNG of any size, but remember that the larger the image, the slower the performance of the application. The battle board will adjust to the correct grid height and width based upon your scale size.

Zooming in and out

Clicking on the “+” and “-” buttons will zoom in and zoom out accordingly. each click will increase or decrease the zoom level by 10%.

Grid Numbering

Under the Settings button is a choice to activate grid numbering. This will fill in the grid with a basic “battleship” numbering system starting at A1 and continuing on for the full grid size.
